*Dr. Jean Dodd's Vaccination Protocol
Prospective puppy owners sometimes ask us to follow the vaccination recommendations of Dr. Jean Dodd on their new puppy. Dr. Dodd is a veterinary advocate of a minimum vaccine protocol and recommends that only Distemper and Parvo vaccinations be given to puppies. Depending on disease prevalence in any given area, most other vaccinations are medically unnecessary, as are yearly boosters. You can read more about Dr. Dodd's minimum vaccine protocol here.
We love Dr. Dodd's recommendations and agree that our dogs are over-vaccinated, however Florida statute 828.29 requires canine vaccines include Distemper, Parvo, Lepto, Parainfluenza, Hepatitis, and Bordatella before a puppy can be issued a health certificate in the state of Florida. Your state may have different requirements but we will generally follow state requirements except for lepto - we do not give lepto to our puppies before they go home.
Forest City Standards is not a high-volume kennel. Our standard poodles are family; they travel with us, play with us, and sleep in our beds. We occasionally have AKC standard poodle puppies available to outstanding homes. Check out our Puppy Protocol to learn how we raise our puppies to be healthy, well-adjusted companions!
We follow a week-by-week program with our puppies that includes ENS, startle reflex and recovery, crate training, frustration tolerance, potty training, leash training and more. Puppies are raised in our home so they are acclimated to the typical sounds and activity of a normal household. We use a puppy-cam as long as practical so viewers can enjoy the antics of those busy first weeks.
